C&C 4 Unit Profile - Nod Avatar

The latest Command & Conquer 4 unit profile has been posted on the Official C&C Site. This profile features the much talked about (based on its appearance), the Nod Avatar. As always this profile features a short in game video, concept art and extra information. Here is a sample….

QUOTE
Avatars were initially equipped with four anti-tank cannons, one on each of its four arms, but the extra cost was deemed unnecessary and two of the arms were dropped from production. As conflicts over the TCN escalated, Nod removed some of the armor from the torso of the Avatar to add a third, more powerful cannon for extra firepower. Although the three cannon model is normally used for production, the Avatar retains its support braces for its extra arms, and commanders have been known add additional cannons to Avatars by salvaging enemy weapons in the field.

C&C 4 Interview with Jason Bender

German C&C site, CnC-welten.de, has posted a new interview that they had with EALA designer, Jason Bender. It covers a lot about Command & Conquer 4 as well as a few other interesting things. One really notable bit of news from this interview is the fact that sandstorms will appear in some of the maps. Here is a sample from the interview.

QUOTE
CnC-welten.de: What happens if the community doesn’t like a design at all, as an example the Nod Avatar? Will you overwork these or why did you overwork the Avatar?
Jason Bender: We try to address the issues that the community is most vocal about. Mostly it comes down to time. The more time we have, the more we can fix.

CnC-welten.de: Many complain about the new design - they regard it as to bright and colourful - why didn’t you choose a design that was as dark as its predecessor?
Jason Bender: There are a few reasons for this, but two in particular stand out. First, we felt that we could make the game look more vivid and appealing if we updated the effects. Personally, I like the way it turned out, but for some people it is tough to make the transition from a game you’ve been playing for a while to a new and radically different visual style. The second reason is for combat clarity. We found that it was very difficult to tell what was going on when 10 people battled in the same area, so we tuned the visual affects to clarify the combat.

Happy Birthday APOC!

CNCNZ.com sends its best wishes to our long time community manager, APOC. I feel its customary to embarrass people on their birthdays so please enjoy this video of APOC performing Bon Jovi’s Livin’ On A Prayer during a party at CommandCom back in August of 2009. We have had this video sitting around for months, so I thought APOC’s birthday was as good as time as any to post it.

Happy Birthday APOC!

Cards for Devs

This news comes to us courtesy of our friends at CNC-247. Looks like they are organising a little something for the Dev team at EALA called Cards for Devs, a majority of them are moving on once Command & Conquer 4 is completed. Here’s how you can help.

QUOTE
Cards for Devs is a project EvilConker and NODSOLDIERGIRL are leading which has the aim of making the developers at EALA not feel abandoned when they’re let go. Basically, when the news of the lay-off came at EALA, we felt guilty, and we noticed that lots of people who like C&C felt guilty too. It doesn’t matter what you think of the games, these developers have worked their heart out on every one of them, and they’ve given us so much that it’s time we give them something back in return. So what we decided to do is to send cards from the community to them, in a reverse of what developers usually do which is send cards to the developers. We’re currently trying to find someone who can make some good artwork to put on the card.

The end result will be that the developers won’t feel like we betrayed them and will walk into the cruel world of unemployment knowing that somebody cares about them. They’ve given us so much, and it’s time for us to give them something in return. You can send your submissions to NODSOLDIERGIRL or EvilConker Good Luck! We can’t wait to see what you’ll come up with.
